On Wednesday evening, Democracy Now! will present live coverage of the first Presidential debate featuring Green Party nominee Jill Stein. Stein, along with Justice Party nominee Rocky Anderson, will be on-stage with host Amy Goodman during the exclusionary debate to which only President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney were invited by the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). Democracy Now! will pause the debate to allow Stein and Johnson - both of whom are on enough state ballots to win a majority of Electoral College votes - equal time to respond.
Tune in to Democracy Now's website to see the live alternative debate beginning at 8:30pm Eastern time.
The Stein campaign has been working for weeks to gain access to the debates. In 1987 the Commission on Presidential Debates was formed by representatives of the Democratic and Republican Parties to host future Presidential debates. The League of Women Voters - the host of many previous Presidential debates - called the conditions under which the CPD assumed control of Presidential debates "a fraud on the American voter".
